Snoring: Indicator of Diseases

We do not realize that we snore. Snoring information is obtained from your sleep partner. If you snore intermittently or mildly, there is less chance of an underlying disease. Oversleeping during the day, frequent urination at night, lack of sleep, suffocation, sudden awakening can cause diseases. Those who have all or one of the above complaints for several months or years will have the disease.
Due to some dangerous factors:
■ Weight increases
■ Thickness values
■ Jaw incorrect
■ Chronic heart disease
■ Chronic respiratory disease
■ Obesity
■ Persistent nasal block
What happens in this disease?
During sleep our muscles relax along with other structures, especially the neck. It compresses the adjacent airpipe. When the airway narrows, we snore and the sound gradually increases (ascending pattern) and at one point becomes completely narrowed. The sound stops completely and no air flows through the airways, causing respiratory failure. This depletes oxygen, then the brain panics and wakes you up to breathe and reopen the airway. Meanwhile, the neck becomes tight again. The airpipe opens and oxygen levels return to normal. This process continues throughout sleep. Constant lack of sleep, daytime sleepiness, increased fatigue and major organs like heart, brain, kidney start to experience some problems.
What can we do?
■ We can lose weight through diet and exercise to prevent neck strain.
■ Treating nasal blockage
■ Wearing an oral appliance can prevent the muscles of the tongue from closing the airway.
■ If necessary, the jaw can be corrected by a plastic surgeon. E.g. Mandibular elevation.
■ We put a special type of cotton in the nose to prevent the noise of snoring.
■ Uses a proper airway pressure mask device called CPAP/BPAP.
■ There is no medicine to cure the condition. However, there are helpful medications.
