Sleep is a natural and important part of day to day routine, which gives us energy, essential for good health. Classification of Sleep

  • Sleepiness due to mental fatigue
  • Sleepiness due to increase in Kapha in the body.
  • Sleepiness because of physical fatigue.
  • Sleep caused by external causes. E.g. Accidents, toxic substances etc.
  • Sleepiness because of sickness. E.g. Fever, diarrhea, diabetes, alcoholism etc.
  • Sleep naturally at night.

Usually if you wake up feeling refreshed, energetic, you will know how much sleep your body needs. But if you feel tired when you wake up, it means that you sleep less or more than you need

Tips for good sleep

  • Wash your feet before going to bed. Massaging the soles of the feet is good.
  • Wear loose and comfortable clothes while sleeping, which will allow air to flow in the body.
  • Do some deep breathing before going to bed. Also do meditation.
  • Do not sleep with your feet facing south.
  • Try not sleep in the kitchen. Also, food should not be kept in the bedroom.
  • Focus on the requirement for fresh air in the bedroom.
  • Never sleep in a dark, dull and damp room.
  • Keep your head slightly elevated while sleeping. Use a thin pillow for that.
  • You can sleep on the roof or under the open sky during the summer. But not in cold or rainy season.
  • Sleeping in direct sunlight is not recommended.

  • Clean, quiet, spacious and comfortable room.
  • Habit of sleeping and waking up at the right time.

Reasons for insomnia

  • Old age
  • Fear, stress, anger.
  • If the beds are not comfortable, the sleeping place and time are not right.
  • smoking
  • If the vata tendency in the body increases.
  • A lot of physical work.
  • Vata imbalance and other physical ailments.
