Malnutrition of the skin

Skin is the mirror of our internal health nutrition. Irregular meal times. Imbalanced diet, eating outside, excess of junk food, lack of fruits, leafy vegetables, dry fruits are the main reasons for it. Different problems due to lack of different nutrients occur.

Lack of Vitamins:

Lack of vitamin A (Or Beta carotene is beneficial for the skin)

  • Function: Maintain skin softness. Prevent skin aging.
  • Deficiency effects: results in roughness of skin, scaly skin, brittle nails, called ‘Phynoderma’ or ‘Phrynoderma’.
  • Remedy: Green leafy vegetables, papaya, banana, carrot, fish should be consumed regularly. In case of severe symptoms, vitamin A pills should be taken on the advice of a dermatologist.

Lack of vitamin C (Or Ascorbic acid is considered as the protective shield of the skin)

  • Function: to make new structural proteins in the skin. (eg collagen, elastin, etc.) maintaining skin elasticity as well as blood circulation.
  • Deficiency effects: include easy cracking of the skin, bleeding from it, swelling of the gums, hemorrhagic rash under the skin.
  • Remedy: regular intake of acidic foods is important. E.g. Lemon, Orange, sweet lime, Amla, Tamarind etc. In case of severe symptoms, vitamin C tablets should be taken on the advice of a specialist.

Lack of vitamin E (Or Tocopherol is immune boosting)

  • Function Regulates cell turnover in the skin. Increase skin immunity,Maintaining the quality of keratin in the nail.
  • Deficiency effects: include dullness and dullness of the skin, hair loss, brittleness, etc, Falling, cracking of nails, dullness
  • Remedy: regular consumption of green leafy vegetables, dry fruits, eggs, fish.

Lack of vitamin B ( important for the overall health of the skin.)

  • Function Regulates gene activity in cells, prolongs the lifespan of skin cells, maintains the softness of the moist membranes of the mouth and nose.
  • Deficiency Effects: Deficiency of Niacin, It is called ‘Pellagra‘. Red rash on the body, mouth sores, cracked palms, lack of folic acid and ‘B-12’ vitamin. Numbness of the soles of the feet.
  • Remedy: Green leafy vegetables, fruits, milk, eggs should be consumed.

Zinc deficiency

  • Zinc works with vitamin E. It is important for protecting the skin.
  • Function: Increases immune cells in the skin, regulates skin cell turnover, prevents skin ageing.
  • Deficiency results in rough skin, cracked skin of limbs, hair greying, ‘ thin and white. Vaginal discharge around the anus.
  • Remedy: under expert guidance ‘Zinc’s
  • Taking pills.. Fruits, dry fruits, milk should be consumed regularly.

Iron deficiency

  • Iron is the breath of the skin. Due to this, there is proper circulation of oxygen in the skin and blood increases.
  • Effects of Deficiency: Anaemia occurs. The skin becomes dull. Dark circles around the eyes.
  • Remedy: Green leafy vegetables, milk, beets, eggs, fish, organic Jaggery should be consumed regularly.

Lack of fat

  • Medamle (fatty acids) are important.
  • Functions Assisting in the function of Vitamins A, E and Zinc, making cell membranes.
  • Effects of Deficiency: Similar effects are seen in deficiency of Vitamin A, E, Zinc.
  • Take one spoon of ghee daily in food.

Skin malnutrition is easily avoidable. With proper nutrition of the skin, we can easily avoid various skin disorders.
